Bad news to anyone sending thirst tweets to Property Brothers star Jonathan Scott: The HGTV star is off the market. It’s something he confirmed in a recent interview with Us Weekly, and recent photos of the contractor hand-in-hand with actress Zooey Deschanel suggest that she’s the mystery woman in question.
“I am seeing someone,” he told the magazine. “I’m a very private person, so I don’t typically talk about that. It’s definitely special for me, because I am the guy who raises the bar in what I’m looking for in a partner. I was caught a little off guard. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.”
The duo had dinner at Little Dom’s restaurant in Loz Feliz, California, on Friday, sparking headlines everywhere. Reports say Jonathan and Zooey met while filming an episode of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke (she and her sister, Emily Deschanel, faced off against Jonathan and his twin—and Property Brothers costar—Drew Scott). The sighting comes one week after Zooey announced her separation from film producer Jacob Pechenik.
“After much discussion and a long period of contemplation, we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners, and co-parents rather than life partners,” Zooey and Jacob said in a statement on September 6. The two had been married for four years and have two children together.
While promoting his second children’s book in the Builder Brothers series, Jonathan discussed filming Carpool Karaoke and meeting the Deschanel sisters for the first time with Hollywood Life: “It’s sometimes a little weird when you just get thrust on camera with people you’ve never met before, but we just clicked.”
Zooey and Jonathan haven’t officially confirmed they’re dating, though an unnamed source told People “it’s new, but they are having a lot of fun together.”
Hollywood Life has also has an anonymous “insider” on record, who says the couple started out as friends. “They’ve been out a few times and seem to want to keep the romance on the quieter side. … They seem to like each other a lot, and Jonathan travels a lot, but they see one another when they can,” the source told the entertainment site.
Fans have already started commenting on Drew’s Instagram post teasing their Carpool Karaoke segment, sending their well wishes to the *potential* couple, and crossing their fingers that the early reports are true. Along with the occasional—”stay single!” thirst plea. Oh, the internet.
